Kolkata, the "City of Joy," is West Bengal's capital and India's cultural hub. A historic metropolis on the Hooghly River, it was British India's capital (1773–1911) and remains East India's commercial, artistic, and educational center.
Kolkata has a tropical climate with hot summers, cool winters, and 1600 mm annual rainfall, mostly during monsoons. In February, during the symposium, the weather is pleasant with temperatures ranging from 18.1°C to 29.4°C.
Barrackpore, a city on Kolkata's northern fringes in North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, lies on the Hooghly River's banks. It hosted the first cantonment of the British East India Company, marking its historic military significance.
In 1857, Barrackpore witnessed Mangal Pandey's rebellion against his British commander, sparking the Indian Rebellion 1857. His court-martial and the disbandment of his regiment fueled sepoy unrest, contributing to the historic Sepoy Mutiny.
Barrackpore is well connected by Air, rail and road. Participants travelling by train should book an express train to Howrah or Sealdah (Kolkata) and Barrackpore Railway Station is just 30km from Howrah/Sealdah. City transport service is available to reach ICAR-CRIJAF which is just 6km away from the Barrackpore railway station. It takes about 35–40 minutes by suburban train to reach Barrackpore railway station from Sealdah Station. It is 14 km away from Netaji Subash International Airport, Kolkata.
